Introduction

Learning outcomes

The Physics 4AL and 4BL classes have been designed with the following outcomes in mind:
  1. Learn lab skills for building physical experiments
  2. Learn basic computational techniques for recording real-world data
  3. Learn computational and statistical techniques for analyzing data
  4. Learn to communicate scientific results clearly in written and oral reports
  5. Learn to work effectively and harmoniously in a small scientific research team
  6. Deepen your understanding of selected physics concepts taught in Physics 1A and 1B
  7. Enhance your enjoyment of and appreciation for physics

Methods:

To achieve these outcomes, you will:
  1. Program and use an ESP 32 microcontroller (in 4AL/4BL)
  2. Analyze data using Python programming, utilizing Jupyter Notebooks (in 4AL/4BL)
  3. Construct a digital oscilloscope (in 4BL)
  4. Investigate principles of mechanics, kinematics and oscillations (in 4AL)
  5. Investigate principles of electric circuits and electromagnetism (in 4BL)
